The most common place to see mold or mildew is in the bathroom. Many home reamadies that has been used and is Eco friendly is using Borax and White vinegar to make a spray. Other common and non toxic remedies are Bleach, Baking Soda, Detergent, Ammonia, and Hydrogen peroixide.
You can use Borax and white vinegar to make a spray that you can aim directly at the mold in the tub or shower. Just mix about 2 ounces of Borax and a cup of white vinegar and you are ready to go. Once you spray it , leave it to sit for 30-60 minutes and then go back in and wipe it off. Presto, the mold will start coming off and you did not have to inhale toxic chemicals to do so. As a back up and a maintenance tip, you can also periodically spray the moldy “areas” with straight vinegar and just let it sit there and soak in. The vinegar will kill the mold that might be growing and it will halt the growth of new mold.
For other small area’s to clean mold, make sure you spray down the area, always wearing protective gear. Moistening the area to clean will keep the mold spores from spreading quickly. However, the room should be sealed off from the other part of the house to keep from spreading any toxic spores. After spraying down with any of the above, use detergent and scrub the area down, allowing the area and dry throughly.
To prevent future mold, there are commercial products that will kill any remaining spores to prevent reinvestation.
